Prejob Guidance
The program provides employment services for low-income adults and adolescents and for displaced workers in the City of Los Angeles. Services include a comprehensive job assistance center, pre-job guidance for adult and adolescent public housing residents, and WIOA programs for adults. Services are targeted to public housing residents. Some services have federal pre-requisites.
The Worksource and Employment Technology Centers provides a comprehensive job assistance center for job seekers in Los Angeles County. The center is open to the general public. Services include a resource center equipped with computers, printers, faxes and phones. The center also provides access to the EDD Cal Jobs database on which a person may search for job listings, and may also post a job resume. In addition, job seekers may research the job market for in-demand skills and occupations; research specific industries or companies; and to find the cost and performance rating for approved training schools. All customers are eligible for an initial assessment and assistance in establishing eligibility for public benefits, and other support services.
Service for job seekers at the other sites: Computer and Technology Centers and the Community Service Center sites. Services at these sites include case management services to coordinate social services for people who live in the housing projects of the Housing Authority. Services may also include alternative education work centers for 15 to 19 year-olds; early intervention for at risk youth; On-the-Job Training; Work Experience; and the Youth Employment Competency program.
The agency also provides support services for public housing participants which include child care for children age five and younger, transportation to program-related appointments and referrals to mental health counseling for problems that may interfere with the ability to work. Each housing project which serves as a community service center and employment and technology center to apply for WIOA funded programs.
