Health/Disability Related Support Groups

Mental health services include professional counseling and peer support. The program offers short term, individual and group counseling. It also offers support groups for gay and lesbian youth ages 15 to 23, and support groups for family members and loved ones of people who are HIV or who have AIDS. In addition, the program provides pre- and post-HIV test counseling. Some groups are open meetings where people may join at any time; others are "closed" and restricted to returning members for reasons of confidentiality. Groups are conducted for gay and bisexual men, gay youth, men and women living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, transgender women, HIV groups for each gender and for youth and newly diagnosed, parents and friends of LGBT Community.

Professionally led group sessions are also offered for those newly diagnosed with HIV, dealing with isolation, fear, stress and other issues related to living with HIV/AIDS.

Education and prevention services are provided through individual and group educational counseling, community outreach and presentations, and safer sex and behavior modification workshops. Staff make presentations to schools and community groups and provide outreach at parks, festivals and at sites where day laborers gather.
