Domestic Violence Shelters
Provider: WOMENSHELTER OF LONG BEACH
The program provides a domestic violence shelter for men, women and their children. There is a 72-hour hold and women are asked to take a leave of absence from their job while they are at the shelter; the length of stay is 30-45 days. Male children age 17 years and younger are accepted; female children of any age are accepted. There are no geographic restrictions.
Victims must be in an intimate relationship with their abuser and have a resent DV incident in order to quality for our DV emergency shelter. The shelter can accommodate women with disabilities who can take care of themselves. The shelter cannot accept women who abuse alcohol or drugs, or who have a severe mental or emotional disturbance.
Three meals and bedding are provided. Residents are required to participate in a case management program, observe the curfew and follow all shelter rules. Support services include TRO and other legal assistance, welfare advocacy, counseling and court accompaniment. A pre-school is available and counseling is provided for residents' children.
