Disaster Related Fraud Reporting
Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AND BUSINESS AFFAIRS - ADMINISTRATION
The department provides disaster services for people of all ages in Los Angeles county. Services include disaster related fraud reporting, business assistance services and landlord/tenant assistance. There are no geographic restrictions.
People may inquire about or report price gouging. Price gouging is the act of a business raising prices of needed products and services over 10% during a declared emergency. Price gouging is prohibited and is governed by Penal Code 396 and the Los Angeles County Price Gouging Ordinance.
For 30 days following the declaration of emergency, it is illegal for a person, contractor, or business to sell or offer to sell any food items or goods or service for a price of more than 10 % above the price charged by that person or business immediately before the declaration of emergency was issued.
Business assistance is provided through the LA County Business and Worker Disaster Help Center, a centralized call center and website providing free, one-on-one counseling and support.
Information about landlord/tenant rights related to times of disaster is available through the Stay Housed LA County website, a partnership between community organizations, legal service providers, and the LA County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs.
