Domestic Violence Shelters (Single Women)

Provider: JENESSE CENTER INC

The program provides shelter services for survivors of domestic violence and their children in Los Angeles County, including single women, single men, pregnant women and emancipated minors. Services include domestic violence shelters. The shelter accepts female and male children under the age of 18. There is a 72-hour hold and employed women or men are asked to take a 30-day leave of absence from their jobs in order to stabilize and adjust to the shelter. The usual length of stay in the emergency shelter is 30 days, but may be extended. All meals are provided to survivors in the emergency shelter program. Participants in the program can be accepted into the transitional shelter program, which has a maximum stay of two years. The transitional program is mostly available to men and women who have completed the emergency shelter program. The shelter can accommodate survivors who use wheelchairs if they are able to take care of themselves. The shelter cannot accommodate those who abuse alcohol and drugs, who are violent or have severe mental or emotional issues. There are no geographic restrictions.

Individuals do not need a restraining order to be able to enter the program, but may obtain one with assistance from the program.

Support services include TRO assistance, individual and group counseling, vocational training, court accompaniment, and transportation. The classes offered include parenting, anger management, DV education. Vocational education services include: entrepreneurial training, job readiness training and educational enrollment assistance.
