Discounted Electric Service

The agency provides discounted electric service targeted to disabilities issues for Los Angeles County. There are no geographic restrictions. 

The Medical Baseline Discount Program provides an extra 16.5 kilowatt hours of electricity per day at the lowest baseline rate to help with the cost of operating necessary medical equipment. The program is available to individuals who require the regular use of electrically powered medical equipment or other qualifying medical devices. Also offers additional notifications during power outages. In the event of a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event, SCE will send a representative to your home to make contact if they are unable to reach you by your preferred method of contact.

   A Medical Baseline allocation may be available to persons whose primary residence requires the regular use of electrically powered life-support equipment and/or has a qualifying illness, such as quadriplegic, paraplegic, hemiplegic, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma, other life-threatening illnesses, or someone with a compromised immune system (the elderly). Qualified customers may receive an extra allotment of energy at the lowest tier rate. A doctor's medical certification is required.

Must be a SCE residential customer with a household member who:

• Requires the regular use of any electrically powered medical/life support equipment (see

partial list below) that mechanically or artificially sustains life or restores or replaces a vital

physical function, including mobility, and/or

• Are temperature sensitive and require air conditioning, and/or

quadriplegic, or hemiplegic, or

• Has a life-threatening illness or compromised immune system or other condition that requires

heating and/or cooling.
